How Lovin on Local Got Started: A Love Letter to Small Business

Every business has an origin story. Ours starts with something simple: a deep, genuine love for small businesses and the communities they build.

Born from Experience

Lovin on Local was founded by someone who has lived the small business life firsthand. As a local boutique owner in Omaha for over a decade, our founder knows what it takes to keep a small business alive — the long hours, the tight margins, and the incredible reward of serving your neighbors every single day.

She also knows something else: small businesses are stronger together. Cross-promotion, community referrals, and showing up for each other — these aren't just nice ideas. They're survival strategies that actually work.

A Gap Worth Filling

For years, she watched incredible local businesses struggle to get noticed while big-box retailers and national chains dominated search results and social feeds. Omaha has an extraordinary small business community — talented makers, passionate restaurateurs, dedicated service providers — and they deserved a platform built specifically to shine a light on them.

So in June 2024, Lovin on Local launched.

What We Set Out to Do

The mission was clear from day one:

  • Give Omaha's small businesses a dedicated space to be discovered
  • Help local shoppers find the businesses that make our city unique
  • Create a real network of business owners who support and promote each other

Not just a directory. A community.

Where We Are Today

The Omaha Small Business Directory has grown to feature hundreds of local businesses across every category — from florists and hair salons to insurance brokers, restaurants, and everything in between. Every listing is a real Omaha-area business owned by real people who care about this community.

And we're just getting started.

Join the Movement

Whether you're a shopper looking to keep your dollars local or a business owner ready to grow your visibility, Lovin on Local is your home base.

Because when small businesses thrive, the whole community wins.
